Want A Pay Rise? Check Out These Three Strategies
If you feel like your income is not cutting it, the only way to really increase your income is to invest in yourself and your skills to increase your market value in your field. It’s not a quick fix or a quick money scheme, but growing in your career will pay off in the long run.
Negotiate for a raise
If you feel that your accomplishments are not duly recognized, it could be that your boss is just too busy. When asking for a raise, don’t pick a number out of nowhere, research your industry and find out the market value of your skills. Be prepared to present your accomplishments in an objective way with documentation, without boasting.
Land a promotion
This does not mean sucking it up with the boss, as this will only reflect ill of you. Let your boss and your colleagues know you are ready for more responsibilities by taking initiative and helping your colleagues when they have too much on their plates. Be careful though not to let your own duties slide. That way, if you do get promoted, your colleagues will respect you for it.
Learn from a mentor
If you can find a mentor in your industry but outside of your company, then he or she can give constructive criticism of your performance and you won’t have to worry about your reputation at work. This is a great way to learn more skills and increase your marketability.
